1863 is a boutique salon located Southeast Calgary owned and operated by stylist and colour expert, Lindsay Kelly. 1863 specializes in EFFORTLESS HAIR! With 20 years experience, we aim to provide the highest level of results for our clients in a cozy and comfortable environment.

“I love soft, lived-in, seamless colour of all kinds but have a soft spot for my blonde babes! One of the things most of my guests love about the way I foil hair is that the grow-out is so seamless - you can make it last as long as you want in between appointments!  I also love cutting and styling and would say bobs and longer hair are my fave cuts to do, if I had to choose :)”

WHY 1863?

English chemist William Henry Perkin made an accidental discovery that changed hair dye forever. In an attempt to generate a cure for malaria, Perkins created the first synthesized dye in 1863. The color was mauve and appropriately named Mauveine.

MEET LINDSAY

I have wanted to do hair for a living since I was 8 and it never swayed! I may be dating myself here, but  my first client was my cabbage patch doll lol, which if you were born in the 80s like me, the strands of yarn made my first attempt at cutting a bob a bit more challenging! I nailed that yarn bob and moved on to barbies… Bobs are still one of my absolute fave haircuts to this day!

I went to hairschool right out of highschool and never looked back! I moved to Calgary from St. Albert at 20 and began my hairstyling career. I worked at 3 salons in Calgary before opening my own studio. Truth be told, I wanted to take the leap for 4 years before I finally let go of the fear and self doubt that was holding me back. Working at larger salons at the start of my career was enjoyable, but as an introverted extrovert, I craved owning my own salon in a more private atmosphere.

I believe that continuous growth is important which is why I have always taken extra education to further my haircutting and coloring skills. Personal growth is also very important to me so you can often find my nose in a self-help book and therapy is not taboo! Infact, a hair appointment with me can often end up feeling like a therapy sesh, with a relaxing head massage and reiki blast leaving you with fabulous hair and light energy.

I am a mama bear to my son Jackson. When I am not at work, you can usually find me at the hockey rink with him. We also love going out for dinner where we love to play our fave card game of crazy 8s! We love movies, music and playing pickleball together. I am so grateful that my kiddo has a fab sense of humour (like me!) as laughing is also one of my fave things to do!
